Abstract
Brazil is the third-largest producer and the world's leading exporter of cotton, with a forecast cotton production of 3.91 million tons (+5.7%) for the 2024/25 harvest. In the Northeast, the estimate is 942,700 tons (+16.2%), both representing historic records. The Central-West region remains the largest producer, accounting for 72% of the total, with the states of Mato Grosso and Bahia standing out, which together account for 90% of national production. In 2025, there was a slight recovery in the domestic market, with pressure on prices starting in March. Global supply is expected to exceed demand at the end of the current harvest (2024/25), but this situation is expected to reverse in the next season. Global geopolitical uncertainties and the domestic scenario of high interest rates may influence both Brazilian consumption and exports. From January to May 2025, national exports increased in volume (+10.4%), but decreased in value (-4.7%). In contrast, exports from the Northeast region grew both in volume (+28.4%) and in value (+8.6%).
