This paper presents information on production, international trade, and the outlook for the apparel industry globally, in Brazil, and in the Northeast region, for 2025. The apparel industry reached its peak production at the end of 2021, recovering from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Soon after, growth slowed and a return to recession occurred between March 2022 and May 2022. April 2025 saw apparel production growth in Brazil (4.4%) and Ceará (3.0%), while the Northeast region saw a decline (-1.8%). Projections from the Brazilian Textile and Apparel Industry Association (Abit) indicate that the apparel industry is expected to grow 1% in 2025. In the second half of 2025, consumption is expected to benefit from new private loan concessions and additional withdrawals from the FGTS (Government Severance Fund). On the other hand, the high level of the economy's basic interest rate (15.00% p.a.), which increases the cost of credit for companies and families, and the slowdown in income growth may reduce the growth trend of clothing production in Brazil.
