Abstract

This work aimed to analyze the export performance of the main fruits produced in northeastern Brazil, being melon, mango and grape for its main destination markets, with reference to the period 2000 to 2018. For this purpose, the Gravitational Model and the Revealed Comparative Advantage Index were used as methodology. The main results showed that melon and mango presented comparative advantage revealed in the international market throughout the period analyzed, while the grape demonstrated loss of comparative advantage revealed over time. The estimated severity model was presented in fixed effect, random effect, corrected random effect (white robust estimator) and Poisson Pseudo-Maximum-Likelihood (PPML), enabling possible. The estimates of the severity models presented results consistent with seminal studies of the economic literature, which indicate that trade flows are positively related to the incomes of importing countries and negatively with the distance between importing and exporting country. Finally, it is noteworthy that the interaction variable attributed to the use of sustainable agriculture, showed a statistically significant and positive impact on the volume of exports of the fruit analyzed, demonstrating the interest of importing countries in purchasing products from organic and sustainable agriculture.
