SPATIAL ANALYSIS OF ELECTRIC ENERGY CONSUMPTION IN CEARÁ: A DEVELOPMENTAL EXAMINATION WITH VERTICAL STRUCTURES

The aim of this study was to evaluate the impacts of price, human development, the Bolsa Família program and the variation of economic activity on low voltage electricity consumption in the municipalities of the State of Ceará, in the period between 2005 and 2016, with the use of spatial panel. The results showed the existence of spatial dependence in the data. It was found that such demand is price elastic. As for human development, this exerts an effect on that consumption, however it is significant only at 10%, a likely consequence of the statistical non-significance of its health and income sub-indices. Furthermore, the Bolsa Família Program was significant in impacting the consumption of electricity, although it has spaces for maturing its impacts.
