Abstract

The northeastern coastal region comprises 216 municipalities in all 9 states, has important sociodemographic and economic characteristics, and concentrates 54% of the Northeast's GDP and has a 7.8% share of the national GDP in 2017. Therefore, the purpose of this article was estimate an Input-Output Matrix, through the Location Quotient method, seeking to know the economic profile of the region from the analysis indicators. In general terms, the results indicate a region specialized in activities related to the oil chain (extraction, refining and shipbuilding); food, cellulose, rubber, paint and iron processing industries; and transport, energy, scientific activities and tourism services. Finally, it is worth emphasizing the need to implement socio-economic sustainability policies to maintain the potential of ecosystem services in the region.
