The Food Acquisition Program (PAA) is considered one of the most promising initiatives from the perspective of Food and Nutritional Security (SAN), however, the PAA is being restructured by the Alimenta Brasil Program. This article aims to construct a socioeconomic diagnosis of the Food Acquisition Program in the municipality of Vitória da Conquista, Bahia. The aim is, therefore, to understand the importance of the PAA in the region and contribute to future research. The methodology used in the work was a case study with local managers, family farmers and receiving units that participated in the PAA in the municipality in 2018. The results show that the program enabled positive socioeconomic changes, guaranteeing the SAN of suppliers and recipients of food and encouraging family farming. However, throughout the period analyzed, the gradual reduction in investments and responsibilities attributed to the federal government greatly burdened municipalities, making it difficult for them to join or continue in the PAA.
