PERFORMANCE OF THE FOOD ACQUISITION PROGRAM (PAA) IN THE BRAZILIAN NORTHEAST FROM 2003 TO 2019

The objective is to analyze the performance of the Food Acquisition Program (PAA) and its contribution to the diversification of the Brazilian Northeast in the period from 2003 to 2019. To this end, firstly, a review of academic literature on the main public policies implemented by the State for family farming and to guarantee adequate food and nutritional security. Regarding methodology, the research is classified as descriptive, bibliographic and documentary. The data used are primary, secondary and from documentary research. As a data processing and analysis strategy, it was crucial to adopt a study using quantitative techniques with the organization, notably, of spreadsheets, graphs, tables and charts. Thus, we sought to clarify the functions and distinctions of each of the PAA modalities, show the evolution of resources, the entities benefited and highlight the main categories of products involved in the operations. In this way, it was shown how the PAA has contributed to a more structured and diversified family farming, in addition to meeting the demands of groups in society in situations of social vulnerability.
