Regional Economy deals with studies that deal with economic issues in their regional or local dimensions, employing various combined forms of empirical and/or analytical investigations. This article aims to study the conceptual aspects of the genesis of the regional economy that strengthen the theoretical framework, the theories of regional imbalances and the New Economic Geography, showing the relationship between theories and recent stylized facts in the Brazilian economy. The methodology used was the dissertation-analytical method, based on a literature review of the main works on regional economics. In conclusion, it is shown that the regional economy, in its various ways of investigating and understanding space, territory and the region, highlights a range of complex mechanisms that induce regional economic growth. In light of theories, these effects can present economic performance from a location characterized as an enclave that stands out among other locations.
