The insertion of PwD in the formal labor market in Piauí between 2000 and 2019 is analyzed in light of legislation – especially the Quota Law (BRASIL, 1991). The research is justified by the share of this group in the total population of Piauí, 27.57%, compared to the limited studies on the subject in the state. Methodologically, the investigation is qualitative with exploratory purposes, via descriptive statistics analysis in the presentation and interpretation of results. There was low labor participation among PwD of working age. The services sector absorbed almost 80% of the vacancies allocated to PwD and three groups of activities – Commerce, Motor Vehicle and Motorcycle Repair; Education; Administrative and Complementary Services – accounted for more than 50% of these occupations. Physical and auditory PwD were preferably used (89.06% of the total). It is concluded that the state economic structure was reflected in the poor labor insertion of PwD – of those able to access the Quota Law between 2006 and 2019, 30.29% were inserted into the formal job market. Conducting actions for employability and generating employment and income for PwD in small companies would bring prospects for hiring, and would adapt to the state's productive dynamics.Downloads
