Abstract

The Matopiba territory has a strong productive potential aimed at agribusiness. However, understanding rural development (RD) as the result of transformations not restricted to the productivist paradigm and not limited to the agricultural sector, but related to broader issues of space, this work has the general objective of building indices and analyzing the bases (conditions, characteristics and effects) that make up rural development. For this purpose, using secondary data from the 337 municipalities of Matopiba, extracted from different sources, such as the Annual Social Information Report (RAIS) and the 2017 Agricultural Census, the Factor Analysis (AF) was estimated in order to summarize the dozens of variables in few factors. Finally, based on the factorial scores, an index per base of rural development was estimated. The results obtained point out that the territory presents heterogeneity among the municipalities in almost all variables and many municipalities are grouped in the medium DR ranges. In order to achieve a better RD, it is necessary to reduce the heterogeneity between municipalities and producers, so that everyone, including family farmers, expands the accessibility capable of creating and Qualifying their productive capacity and well-being.
