Logistics sprawl is a phenomenon characterized by the concentration of logistics distribution centers in peripheral regions to the detriment of central areas. This phenomenon occurs due to greater accessibility and availability of land for installing warehouses in regions further away from city centers at a lower cost. The objective of this work is to identify and measure the occurrence of logistical sprawl in the Metropolitan Region of Recife (RMR). Using public data, 502 companies installed in the RMR were identified in the period between 1960 and 2020. Through centrographic analysis, it was identified that the warehouses are located 13.14 km from the geographic center of the Metropolitan Region of Recife in the 2020s and that there was an increase of 1.88 km in logistical sprawl, with warehouses being installed mainly in the southern axis of the region, parallel to the coast. In this way, the impact of the Port of Suape on attracting warehouses is observed. Furthermore, the level of sprawl identified in the RMR is compatible with other Brazilian metropolitan regions and does not have a significant impact on urban cargo distribution operations in the region under study.Downloads
