The Agroamigo is part of what is known as a rural microfinance program. In its 18 years of existence, the program has survived problems of various types, but it has established itself as a public policy that provides a productive foundation for small family-based farmers in northeastern Brazil. Therefore, this article aims to analyze the results and prospects of this program with a strong socioeconomic effect among the poorest family farmers in rural Sergipe. Therefore, it starts with a qualitative and quantitative analysis, based on the program’s registration data, provided by the BNB (2023) and a bibliographical review, which provided the spatialization and appreciation of some important aspects about its execution in this period. From 2005 to 2022, the procedures and institutional norms established by the program gave concrete form to its objectives and consolidated the appreciation of the small poor farmer, in the sense of making him a potential borrower of credit and capable of fulfilling the commitments assumed with the bank. This aspect was observed in Sergipe, but which still has gaps to be overcome by further strengthening the close relationship between its operators and the target audience
