This paper undertakes an exploratory analysis of the relationship between R&D expenditures and sales, based in data of new technologybased firms, collected from some Brazilian technology incubators. The intensive sectors in advanced science and technology, like electronics, computers/software, new materials technologies, instruments, military and aerospace equipment, biotechnology and chemical industry are composed by new technology-based firms. This article seeks to identify the standard of relationship between R&D and sale into the new technology-based firms of Brazilian incubators specifically, in this sense, R&D intensive firms are considered. First, the paper shows descriptive statistics presenting the data base, revealing the sectorial firm distribution and the R&D intensity, measured by R&D and sale ratio, as well as by the R&D and employment ratio. Second, an econometric models with a functional form “double-log” is used to estimate the elasticity of R&D expenditures concerning to sales of the new technology-based firms.
