This article proceeds a study of the competitiveness in the textile sectors of the Northeastern and Paraiban economies. Taking as a theatrical reference the notions about globalization and competitiveness, the globalization effects on the competitiveness in the textile sector were investigated. In short, starting from this theoretical reference, recent national, Northeastern and Paraiban events were exposed. Special importance was given to the Index of the Formal Employment quality as a circumstantial evidence of the reflection of the commercial, opening of the sector in the Northeast and Paraíba. The IQEF were calculated in the period from 1986 to 1996 taking data given by the “Ministério do Trabalho”, more specifically from the “RAIS”. These results were completed with qualitative information given by the companies through interviews. Some important points were identified i) the age of the installed park implies on the decrease of the sector competitiveness. ii) the educational level is other limitation factor for the competitiveness improvement and iii) some improvements in the formal employment quality were made.
