Abstract

This paper approaches the question of criminality in the Police Region of the Great São Paulo (PRGSP) taking as reference the aggregate of crime (all indictable offenses) known to the police as well as the specific modality of theft and robbery of vehicles. Trying to understand a little bit more about the phenomena of criminality in that important region, this paper modeled an offer curve of criminal activities, taking as a theoretical framework the models of optimal allocation of time in the economics of crime. Next, making use of cointegration models and a mechanism of error correction, offer curves of both the aggregate of crimes and theft and robbery of vehicles were adjusted. The econometric results showed that increases of unemployment and income concentration indexes, reduction of the average earnings of labor, and a change for the worse of the efficiency of police and justice explain the evolution of criminal activities in that region, both the aggregate of crime and theft and robbery of vehicles.

Rogério Pereira, Universidade do Estado da Bahia

Doutor em Economia pelo Programa de Pós-Graduação em Economia da Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (PIMES/UFPE). Sua experiência profissional se desenvolve no Brasil, trabalhando como professor adjunto do curso de administração da Universidade do Estado da Bahia (UNEB). Como pesquisador atua na coordenação do Grupo de Estudos Regionais e Urbanos (GERU), e como membro do Grupo de Estudos em Economia Espacial (GEESP/UFBA). da Associação Brasileira de Estudos Regionais e Urbanos (ABER) e da Regional Science Association International (RSAI). Foi bolsista CNPQ durante o mestrado, e, PAC/UNEB, no doutorado. Possui trabalhos publicados em Economia Regional e Urbana, Economia Social e Economia dos Recursos Naturais e Hídricos; sendo que seu último trabalho foi publicado pela Regional Science: policy and practice. Recentemente, atuou como consultor/pesquisador no projeto COVID/19-Inteligência Artificial, em parceria com o CIDACS e o CIMATEC. Além disso, iniciou o projeto Sustentabilidade no Semiárido Brasileiro: uma aplicação de micro-simulação e machine learning à legislação ambiental nacional.

José Carrera Fernandez, Universidade Federal da Bahia

Possui graduação em Engenharia Civil pela Universidade Federal da Bahia (1980), graduação em Economia pela Faculdade Católica de Ciências Econômicas da Bahia (1977), mestrado em Economia pela Universidade Federal da Bahia (1980), mestrado em Economia - The University Of Chicago (1984) e PhD*(abd) em Economia - The University of Chicago. Atualmente é professor adjunto da Universidade Federal da Bahia. Tem experiência na área de Economia, com ênfase em Teoria Geral da Economia, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: microeconomia, econometria, recursos hídricos, mercado de trabalho e economia do crime.
