Common property and free access to fish stock have represented main implications to the form in which fishery has been developed. Due to the great competition among fishing vessels (boats) and non-existence of incentives to maintain the fishing effort close to maximum sustainable yield level, predatory effects of fishing are observed. This study analysis the trend of fish production in the northeast region and its relation to export and national consumption. Table analysis and regression technique were applied. Main results are: given a great potential of water accumulation in the region, it is possible to increase fish production to meet regional demand and generate income for fish producers. This production system (fish production in sweet water) is of fundamental importance to reduce the pressure on sea fish stock and consequently make it possible to preserve it for future consumption. It was also observed that fish production in the northeast region has positive significant influence on national fish consumption and export.
