Abstract

Based in the available input-output matrix for Brazil and Minas Gerais relative to 1980, this paper aims to analyse the relationship between the productive structure in Minas Gerais and in the rest of Brazil, as well as to evaluate the impact of the investment in several productive sectors of the economy of those regions trhough output, income and employment multipliers affects. This paper intends also to identify by sector if the benefits are really internalized in Minas Gerais economy. The analysis of the relationship pattern between Minas Gerais and the rest of Brazil follows the interregional input-output model known as the Chenery-Moses Model. We compared our results with the results presented by CAVALVATI (1990), who applied the same model to the Northeast in the same base year (1980). We concluded that, differently from the Northeast economy, the impacts by sector of the industrial investment made in Minas Gerais are mainly internalized in this region. We also concluded that only in some of the 69 sectors analysed the investments have produced more effects on the rest of Brazil than on the region where they had been made.
