Abstract

The paper discusses recent trends of the globalization pro cess and its major impacts on the Brazilian economy. It starts with an overview of the changes in time in the perception of the impor tance of international trade; it follows with a description of the growth of interdependence among all nations of the world and the formation of regional trade blocs; and it concludes with an analysis of the effects of all these trends on the economy of Northeastem Brazil.
