PRODUTIVIDADE, COMPETITIVIDADE E ESTRUTURA DA INDÚSTRIA NORDESTINA A PARTIR DE 1980

Abstract

This paper analyses the performance of production, productivity and competitive power of Northeasthem Region industry, against national market, in the period 1980-1992, when successive crises occurred; the situation worsened in the first years of the '90s. Our conclusions confirm that the fragility of Northeastem industry is increasing and that the recessive process tends to be more intense in the Region, due to its productive integration, subordination to extra- regional economical decisions and lesser capacity of attracting new investments. To minimize the problem, we present alternative solutions, aimed at attracting great investments, along with strengthening of integrated groups of mall and medium enterprises, in search of implantation of a development project that includes great projects and local potentialities.
