Analysis of the "Criança Alagoana" program on infant mortality rates in the municipalities of Alagoas

Initial conditions and family environment are prognostic factors for the quality of life and the guarantee of access to services and places that individuals will have throughout their lives. In a scenario where essential rights are linked to issues of surname and geographical location of birth, the so-called lottery of life is formed. Early childhood, the period from 0 to 6 years old, is a window of opportunity for promoting interventions to reduce social disparities and expand future conditions for individuals to have similar opportunities. In the state of Alagoas, the Criança Alagoana Program was created with the aim of promoting the comprehensive development of children. The objective of this article is to evaluate the impact of the Criança Alagoana Program on the infant mortality rate. The estimates, using DATASUS data for the year 2021, were carried out through regression after using Propensity Score Matching to construct the counterfactual group. The result indicates that it was not possible to observe a significant effect of the Criança Alagoana Program on the infant mortality rate for the analyzed period.
