The main objective of this study was to determine the recent evolution of the Brazil Northeast fruit farming and its production trend, especially, to analyze the production growing sources and its tendency as an agro-industry. The data had been searched from Fundação IBGE (Brazilian Statistic Geography Institute), and covers the period from 1979 to 1994. The shift-share model analyzed the growing sources. The production tendency was analyzed considering increasingly rates for this study period. The results showed that the area-effect was the main responsible for the increase in production of coconut, orange, banana and cashew nuts, whereas for mango, melon and pineapple, the productivity was responsible for the increase in production. Area expansion should consider the actual disposability and its mid-range perspectives. It should be mentioned that agribusiness expansion and new production processes, mainly through the use of plantings to increase fruit productivity and quality should adjust the increase of fruit offer.
